Administrative Staff
Assistant Camp Director (1 @ $1450/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The assistant camp director works closely with the camp director to ensure the delivery of a safe, organized, and fun camp program for all campers and staff. This individual oversees the unit staff, and serves as the site director in the camp director’s absence. Previous camp leadership experience required. Lives in platform tent. Supervised by camp director.
Program Director (1 @ $1450/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The program director oversees the work of the program specialists in arts, nature/ecology, ropes, and social consciousness, and servers as the outfitter (equipment coordinator) for trips and overnights. This individual works closely with trip staff to plan and organize to the wilderness trip. Previous camp leadership and trip camping experience required. Lives in platform tent. Supervised by camp director.
Business /Operations Manager (1 @ $1150/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The business/operations manager is responsible for the smooth operation of camp logistics, program related purchases, and financial record-keeping. This individual will also serve as driver. Basic bookkeeping skills and valid driver’s license required. Lives in platform tent. Supervised by camp director.
Health Supervisor (1 @ $1750/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The health supervisor is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff and the maintenance of sanitary living conditions throughout camp. The health supervisor reviews all camper and staff medical forms, shares pertinent information as necessary, conducts health screenings of arriving campers, and oversees the distribution of all camper and staff medications. The health supervisor is first responder in the case of a medical emergency. Must be a registered nurse or MD licensed to practice in the state of New York. First Aid/CPR certification required. Lives in cabin. Supervised by camp director.
Kitchen Staff
Food Service Supervisor (1 @ $3450/extended season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. The food service supervisor coordinates the serving of 90+ healthy meals, three times daily, to all participants and staff; in accordance with the camp’s mission and vision. Responsible for planning appealing, healthy menus using fresh locally produced ingredients where possible. Coordinates purchasing. Oversees the assistant cook and kitchen aides, maintains safety and cleanliness in the kitchen in accordance with NYS health code requirements. Certification or documented experience in food service management required. Lives in cabin. May live off-site and commute. Supervised by camp director.
Assistant Cook (1@ $2850/extended season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. The assistant cook works closely with the food service supervisor, to ensure delivery of three healthy meals daily for campers and staff, and maintenance of safe and sanitary conditions in the kitchen, including post-meal clean-up. Oversees the work of the kitchen aides in the absence of the food supervisor. Previous food service experience required. Lives in cabin. Supervised by the food service supervisor.
Kitchen Aides (2 @ $800/season) — Must be 16 years of age or older. Kitchen aides assist in all aspects of food service operations as directed by the food supervisor. Duties may include prep, serving, dishwasher operation, general clean-up, and unloading deliveries. Kitchen aides also coordinate the preparation of food requested for pack-out meals. Stamina and positive attitude required. Working papers required if under age 18. Live in platform tent. Supervised by the food service supervisor.
Waterfront Staff
Aquatics Director (1 @ $1350/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The aquatics director establishes and oversees all activities in and on the water, assesses camper and staff swimming ability, and safety conditions at the waterfront, and supervises all staff and campers participating in swimming activities. The aquatics director oversees the lifeguarding staff is responsible for rehearsing emergency procedures and overseeing emergency response at the waterfront. Six weeks prior experience in aquatics management and supervision required. Certifications required: WSI, Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid. Lives in platform tent and shares in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the camp director.
Lifeguards – Swimming (2 @ $950/season) — Must be 18 years of age older. Swim lifeguards supervise recreational swimming, give swimming lessons, and rehearse and respond to waterfront emergencies as directed by the aquatics director. Lifeguards are expected to maintain fitness level necessary to carry out established emergency procedures. Strong swimming skills are a must; previous experience lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons strongly desired. Certifications required: Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid. WSI certification strongly desired. Live in a platform tent and share in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the aquatics director.
Lifeguard – Small Craft (1 @ $950/season) — Must be 18 years of age older. Small craft lifeguard supervises recreational canoeing and sailing, and rehearses and responds to waterfront emergencies as directed by the aquatics director. Lifeguards are expected to maintain fitness level necessary to carry out established emergency procedures. Strong swimming skills are a must; previous experience lifeguarding and teaching canoeing/sailing required. Certifications required: Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid. Small craft instructor certification strongly desired. Lives in a platform tent and shares in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the aquatics director.
Program Staff
Ropes Course Specialists (2 @ $1150/season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. Ropes course specialists are responsible for the safety of the zip line and low elements, including maintaining up-to-date equipment use logs. Ropes course specialists work with staff and camper groups guiding them through the progression of elements and the debriefing process. ACCT certification as challenge course practitioner required. Live in a platform tent and share in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the program director.
Arts Specialist (1 @ $1150/season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. The arts specialist oversees creative arts activities both at the Imagination Station and throughout the camp. The arts specialist is responsible for planning and coordinating a quality program in creative, performing, and hand arts that reflects the mission and vision and encourages campers to find their unique artistic voices against the inspirational backdrop of Little Notch’s beautiful wilderness setting. The arts specialist works directly with camper groups and assists unit staff in developing arts-based elective activities. Love of nature and the arts and a knack for imaginative use of available resources required. Lives in a platform tent and shares in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the program director.
Nature and Ecology Specialist (1 @ $1150/season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. The nature/ecology specialist plans and delivers a quality program of nature exploration and responsible stewardship that actively engages campers and staff in a personal relationship with the natural world. The nature ecology specialist guides campers through the process of building and maintaining the camp’s weather station, and making daily reports of its findings, and is a primary force in our sustainability/ waste reduction efforts. The nature/ecology specialist works directly with camper groups and assists unit staff in developing nature/ecology-based elective activities. Experience/training in environmental education and a knack for inspired teaching required. Must be willing to get wet and dirty. Lives in a platform tent and shares in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the program director.
Social Consciousness Specialist (1 @ $1150/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The social consciousness specialist develops and delivers workshops and activities that enable staff and campers to confront issues of social justice such as multi-culturalism, diversity, non-violent communication and community building, in a safe and supportive setting, and is available as a consultant to camp staff in developing unit activities or responding to the needs of the girls in the unit. Training and experience in facilitating social consciousness activities required. Lives in a platform tent and shares in unit supervision outside of program hours. Supervised by the program director.
Counseling Staff
CIT Director (1 @ $1150/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The CIT director works collaboratively with the camp director to develop and deliver a quality, hands-on counselor-in-training program for 16 and 17 year olds. After spending time pre-season articulating the goals and general scope of the program, the CIT director works directly with the CIT’s to plan and carry out the three-week training program. Once the CIT’s have moved into assisting with program activities, the CIT director is responsible for daily observations and providing feedback to each CIT on her growth and development, and for providing a final written evaluation of each CIT. Previous camp leadership experience, and experience living and working with teens, required. Wilderness First Aid and CPR required. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the camp director.
Unit Leaders (3-4 @ $1050/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. Unit leaders oversee the activities and are responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and growth of the group of 12-20 girls of similar age who make up their unit. Assisted by two or three unit counselors, the unit leader guides campers in planning and carrying out their activities, and works to ensure the social health and well-being of the unit community. Unit leaders are responsible for organizing the time-off schedules of the staff in their unit, and for maintaining communication between the unit and the rest of the camp. In addition to unit responsibilities, unit leaders are responsible for planning and leading elective activities in areas in which they have experience and expertise. Previous camp experience and positive experience supervising children (or equivalent training) required. Wilderness First Aid and CPR required. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the assistant camp director.
Unit Leader/Trip Leader (1 @ 1050/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. This individual will work as a unit leader during session 1 and will lead the wilderness trip during session 4. In addition to unit leader duties outlined above, the Trip Leader works in collaboration with the program director to select a safe and appropriate route for the wilderness trip (3-4 days, flat-water canoeing and hiking), and secure all necessary permits. The trip leader is responsible for assessing the skill levels of the campers in the trip group, and providing the necessary instruction and orientation, prior to leaving camp, to ensure the campers’ safety while on the trip. Together with the trip assistant, the trip leader works with campers to build a cohesive group and provide a positive challenge experience for each participant. The trip leader supervises the trip assistant. Previous wilderness/back-country trip experience required (must have participated in at least three similar trips as camp staff); lifeguard training, wilderness first aid and CPR certifications required. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the assistant camp director.
Unit Counselors (9-10 @ $800/season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. Unit counselors work directly with campers, guiding them in activity planning and helping them to learn to live together in the camp setting. Unit counselors are directly responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the campers in their care, and work closely with each other and unit leaders to ensure the social health and well-being of the unit community. In addition to unit responsibilities, unit counselors are responsible for planning and leading elective activities in areas in which they have experience and expertise. Previous camp experience and experience supervising children (or equivalent training) required. Wilderness First Aid and CPR required. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the unit leader.
Unit Counselor/Trip Assistant (1 @ $800/season) — Must be 18 years of age or older. This individual will work as a unit counselor during session 1 and will serve as assistant trip leader for the wilderness trip during session 4. In addition to unit counselor duties outlined above, the Trip Assistant works in collaboration with the program director and the trip leader to plan and carry out the trip (3-4 days, flat-water canoeing and hiking). The trip assistant assists with the assessment of trip campers’ skill levels, and assists with providing the necessary instruction and orientation, prior to leaving camp, to ensure the campers’ safety while on the trip. Together with the trip leader, the trip assistant works with campers to build a cohesive group and provide a positive challenge experience for each participant. Previous wilderness/back-country trip experience required; lifeguard training, wilderness first aid and CPR certifications required. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the unit leader/trip leader.
Support Staff
ASL Interpreter Coordinator (1 @ $1300/season) — Must be 21 years of age or older. The interpreter coordinator works in collaboration with the camp director to recruit qualified individuals for volunteer interpreter positions for both pre-certified interns and certified mentors. The interpreter coordinator conducts a skill screening for each pre-certified interpreter intern applicant and facilitates the orientation for all interpreters prior to pre-camp training. The interpreter coordinator oversees scheduling of volunteer interpreters interns and certified mentors during training and camp sessions. The interpreter coordinator also supervises the work of, and provides ongoing feedback to interpreter interns, and is responsible for submitting a written evaluation of each interpreter intern at the end of the camp season. The interpreter coordinator may also provide interpreting services as needed. RID Certification required, a minimum of 5 years interpreting experience and knowledge and skills in outdoor settings are highly recommended. Lives in a platform tent. Supervised by the assistant camp director.
ASL Interpreter Interns (3 or more, as required by camper/staff needs – Volunteer internship) — Must be 18 years of age or older. Interpreter interns work directly with staff and campers to facilitate communication in ASL and English for all training, program and community activities as needed, and work collaboratively with unit leaders and the interpreter coordinator to ensure that scheduling needs are met. Interpreter interns do not supervise campers, and will wear identifying t-shirt while interpreting. This internship is open only to pre-certified interpreters who are graduates of an interpreter training program, NIC written, as well as knowledge and skills in outdoor settings, highly recommended. Each pre-certified intern must pass a skill screening given by the interpreter coordinator to qualify for the position. Live in platform tent with unit staff. Supervised by the interpreter coordinator.
