All of our activities are opportunities for campers to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. Guided by their counselors, campers choose from a wide variety of group-planned activities, which allow for skill development and personal challenge in a safe and fun environment. Unless noted, all campers are eligible to participate in these activities, though not all activities are offered every day. Camp activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing*, hiking, cookouts, land stewardship, campfires, creek-walking, tie-dyeing, drawing, beading, singing, ropes course, journaling, meditation, overnight camp-outs...and more.

Note: A swim assessment is required to determine the level at which each camper can safely participate in aquatic activities.

*Campers must pass a deep-water swim test to be eligible for sailing.

Basic Daily Structure

Campers start their morning at 7:30 am giving them time to dress and any personal care before going to the dining hall to enjoy breakfast. At all meals, the campers, staff and volunteers work together to set the table, serve the food family style, and end the meal by cleaning and putting away the dishes. After breakfast, "kapers" are next. Kapers* are community responsibilities throughout the camp. The campers then enjoy many fun-filled, camper-planned activities. The campers enjoy staying busy throughout the morning with programs such as hiking, boating, swimming, games, and arts & crafts. Lunch is at 12:30 pm, followed by a busy afternoon of more activities and "me-time" (personal time) before dinner at 6:00 pm. The girls then go to "Singing Logs" to enjoy learning new songs while building fond memories with friends and counselors. Each day ends with evening program time and campfires before bedtime at 9:00 pm.

 

A word about Kapers:
Campers and counselors chip in to do kapers for 20-30 minutes every day. Camper kapers not only involve keeping personal and living space tidy, but also include tasks like helping to keep their unit neat and clean, collecting wood for campfires, setting the table at mealtime, clearing the table and washing dishes, sweeping, cleaning latrines, etc. Working together and taking pride in our camp teaches the girls teamwork, learning responsibility and respect for themselves and others. These are just a few of the positive outcomes we see from participating in kapers.

We understand that families have different abilities to pay for summer camp and we strive to make invaluable camp experiences affordable for all. During the online registration process, please choose the payment tier that you can afford. Your choice is confidential and your child will receive the same programs and opportunities regardless of the tier you choose.

Tier 1:  This is the true cost for each camper, including but not limited to: staff, meals, maintenance, utilities, insurance, etc. 

Tier 2:  This partially subsidized rate reflects the basic cost for each camper, including food, staff, supplies, and some maintenance. 

Tier 3:  This significantly subsidized rate reflects the most basic cost for each camper, including food, staff, and some supplies. 

Camperships: To make the Little Notch experience a reality for everyone who wishes to attend, we are able to provide a limited number of camperships.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:  A full refund (registration fee, including deposit) is available if you cancel your child's registration prior to April 1.  Registrations cancelled after April 1 and more than 60 days prior to arrival at camp will be refunded 100% of the registration fee minus the deposit.  Registrations cancelled 30-59 days prior to arrival at camp will be refunded 50% of the registration fee minus the deposit.  We are not able to give refunds for cancellations with less than 30 days notice prior to arrival at camp.

Camp Staff and Safety

We strive to bring together a diverse staff. They are selected for their strong leadership, problem solving skills, love of working with children, ability to model our mission, and a passion for the outdoors. All applicants are thoroughly screened and participate in comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation. The ratio of counselors to campers is one counselor to every six campers ages 7 and 8, and one counselor to every eight campers age 9 and above. All Camp Little Notch staff are certified in first aid. Waterfront and boating staff are certified lifeguards and ropes course staff are certified in belay. A registered nurse, or other licensed medical professional, oversees the health and safety of campers and staff on site.
