Our Story

For 70 years—from 1939 to 2008—the Girl Scouts owned and operated Camp Little Notch as a summer camp for girls. In 2008, the Girl Scout council decided to close the camp and sell the property. Upon learning of the impending sale, an energetic group of former campers and staff—who believed CLN could and should reopen—formed Friends of Camp Little Notch (Friends of CLN). Friends of CLN successfully conserved the property through a relationship with the Open Space Institute (OSI), reopened camp in 2012, and eventually raised enough money to purchase the property from OSI in January 2015.

The dream of welcoming campers back to this magical forest was made possible by the dedicated volunteers, generous supporters, CLN community, Friends of CLN Board of Directors, staff, and members. Generations of campers spent life-changing summers here and many are still connected to CLN as members of Friends of Camp Little Notch.

Camp Little Notch is a place where everyone can belong! Campers are grouped by similar age and discover their strengths and unique voices as we support them through the transition to adulthood. Little Notch connects children of diverse backgrounds with each other, positive mentors, and the land. We provide opportunities to develop responsibility, resourcefulness, wellness, creativity, and teamwork skills. Activities include swimming, canoeing, sailing, team building, ropes course, yoga, creek walks, wildlife observation, hiking, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, music, overnight camp-outs, and so much more!
